123 1 2 3 Apparatus: • • Two trolleys Horizontal surface with buffers Measuring stick Scale Method: 1. Measure the mass of each trolley. 2. Place the two trolleys (facing each other) approximately in the centre of the surface. 3. Mark the positions of the trolleys. 4. Place a weight on one of the trolleys so that the masses are m and 2m respectively. 5. Release the spring. If the trolleys do not hit the buffers at the same time, the trolleys must be moved to a new starting position and the experiment redone until they do. 6. Measure the displacements X1 and X2. 7. Repeat the experiment two more times, changing the masses of each trolley for readings 2 and 3.
