Green communities are springing up all over the nation. In some cases, the need to rebuild after a natural disaster has inspired communities to go green, redefining making a fresh start. One example is Greensburg, Kansas, which chose to rebuild an entirely green town after 95 percent of it was destroyed by a tornado in 2007. Similarly, after Hurricane Katrina obliterated much of New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward, the Make It Right project took on the challenge of building environmentally sound houses that would withstand the flooding that had decimated the area. What principles or elements of design do you notice in the interior or exterior of the homes and buildings?
