A rectangular field is three times as long as it is wide. If the perimeter of the field is 600 feet, what are the dimensions of the field?

Length (L): 3w

width (w): w

Perimeter (P) = 2L + 2w

600 = 2(3w) + 2(w)

600 = 6w + 2w

600 = 8w

[tex]\frac{600}{8} = \frac{8w}{8}[/tex]

75 = w

Length (L): 3w   = 3(75)   = 225

Answer: Length=225 feet, width=75 feet
