Hexane is alkane and hexene is alkene.

They can be distinguish by bromine test.

Hexane being a saturated hydrocarbon does not decolourizes Br2 in CCl4 and hexene being unsaturated decolourizes Br2 in CCl4.

Reaction : CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2=CH2 + Br2 in CCl4 ------> CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2(Br)CH2Br ( colourless)
