1 7/8 years                       or  1.875 years


Explanation

Let Jack's age be x years.

Then;

Harold = 2x years

Dan = 2x - 3

But Harolds age is thre times Dan's age.

∴ 2x = 5(2x -3)

   2x = 10x - 15

   2x - 10x = -15

    -8x = -15

     8x = 15

       x = 15/8

          = 1 7/8 years                       or  1.875 years
