Why does it take 3 copies of 1/6 to show the same amount as 1 copy of 1/2?

3*1/6= 3/6 for three copies. 1/2 can equal half of any number. 3 is half of 6, so 3/6=1/2. 1/2 d 3/6 are equivalent fractions.
