Find the missing side lengths
Hello from MrBillDoesMath!
Answer:
x = y = 4 sqrt(2)
Discussion:
This triangle shown isosceles (45-45-90 triangle) so x = y. Using the Pythagorean theorem
x^2 + y^2 = 8^2 => as x = y and 8^2 = 8*8 = 64
x^2 + x^2 = 64
2x^2 = 64 => divide both sides by 2
x^2 = 64/2 = 32 => take square root of both sides
x = sqrt(32) => as 32 = 16 * 2 = 4^2 * 2
x = sqrt(4^2*2)
x = 4 sqrt(2)
Thank you,
