They mostly depend on : irrigation
Deccan Plateau has a very Low rainfall rate which make it very impossible to be used as farming Area before the Introduction of Irrigation.
But since the land in Deccan Plateau is very rich in Mineral, it became a very good farming spot as long as people found the source of watering . Most of Deccan plateau farmers get their irrigation water from Narmada River
