Answer:

Russia in itself has had a long history of unstable empires, may it be for the constant conflicts with neighboring countries or just bad government officials.  I think it'd be more so the fact that fighting with Japan (who at the time has grown into a sizable threat). I think the war just sparked some growing issues in Russia.
