To test the quality of water sources in her area, Shameka collects five samples from each water source and tests the quality of each sample. Shamekha is conducting the verification of results.
Explanation:
The scientific design consists of iterative and cyclic process to prove a hypothesis experimentally as well as theoretically. The scientific design helps to understand four things:
(i) characterisation of the subject of inquiry
(ii) hypothesis made from the characterisation results
(iii) predictions
(iv) experiments to prove the accuracy and precision of the hypothesis.
The first step characterisation consists of collecting the samples of subject of inquiry which is water for the present case, and then the water samples were tested to measure the concentration of hard and soft salts in the water. This is required to determine the quality of water.
So, the collection of samples and testing them fall under characterisation category of the scientific design where Shamekha was trying to verify the results.
