It was a scorching day for me at the inn. I was helping mom clean up as normal so my dad wouldnāt get any sācker then he was. I knew his time was coming when he would take his last breath, but I tried to keep a positive mind set. āCan you clean all the tables and beds for me Jim?ā with giving a second for me to respond she āThank you!ā āI might as well clean the whole house mom!ā I said back sarcastically. Luckily, she didnāt hear what I said back, or I wouldāve got popped right in the lip, so hard my jaw Wouldāve been knocked right off. I turned around to get to work dusting every table, then polishing emā. Then I began beating the dust out of the sheets dipping them in the fresh bucket oā water and hanging them on the line to dry. Later that night my father called me to his room on the second deck. āSon, I love you and if I werenāt this darn sick I would have done so much for you. I wish I couldāve done more for your mother to. I want you to help her āround the house doing all the chores you can do. ā I already do enough!ā I wined back. āSometimes enough for you just aint enough for others.ā The conversation was short as a stick then I hit the sack. I woke the next mornā and sat down on one of the hard wood stools to eat my fluffy biscuit. When I heard someone coming to the front of the inn I turned around in the back oā my seat to see who was at the door. The man took a while to open the door. He finally pushed it opened and wobbled in the room. He was an old seaman. I could tell by the coat and how he walked like a ship was rockāin. āGood mornāā he said to me. I said nothing and just watched him.
