Why is it a mistake to overuse exclamation points in your writing

Exclamation points suggest something is being said with feeling, or they signal the dynamics of a piece of speech (if it is said with emphasis or at a loud volume). They exaggerate the point being made. If your writing is full of exclamation points, the statements lose some of their impact. They should be used sparingly.
