Simplify 3(x - 2) + 5x

First, you distribute the 3 into the brackets,

3(x - 2) + 5x
=
3(x) + 3(-2) + 5x
=3x - 6 + 5x

Adding the like terms, 3x and 5x, gives you

=8x - 6
