To factor this we can say that it has to be in the form (3x+a)(x+z), because there is no other way to get 3x^2. Not that a and z are random numbers. We can guess values for a and z and see that a can be 2 and z can be 3.  The answer is (3x+2)(x+3) because of this.

3x^2 + 11x + 6 = 0

~Factor left side

(3x + 2)(x + 3) = 0

~Solve both factors

(3x + 2) = 0

3x = -2

x = -2/3

(x + 3) = 0

x = -3
