The crude growth rate, r, of a population is calculated by;

- In population demographics, there is what we call crude rate which is used to describe the demographics of an event for a particular population.
- Now, there is crude birth rate (CBR) which is defined as the number of births per 1000 people in a given population over a specified period of time.
Also, there is what we call Crude death rate (CDR) which is defined as the number of deaths per 1000 people in a given population over a specified period of time.
Now, crude growth rate is gotten by adding those two namely CDR and CBR together.
