Why is the net charge of the nucleus positive?

The reason being that although an atom's nucleus consist of protons and neutrons, the neutrons do not contribute to the charge of the atom's nucleus but only the atomic mass. The protons do, on the other hand and thus is why the overall charge of the nucleus is determined by the protons, and thus is why it's positive.
