The United States Tax Court is a federal trial court that was created to decide on disputes between taxpayers and the Internal Revenue Service about issues connected to the federal income tax.

When a deficiency is detected in the payment, the IRS communicates so the affected taxpayer, who may decide to discuss the issue in court before making any payment.
