Answer:

3(x + 4) = 3(x) + 3(4)
3(x + 4) = 3x + 12
3x + 12 = 3x + 12

Subtract 12 from both sides
3x + 12 - 12 = 3x + 12 - 12

3x = 3x
3x - 3x = 3x - 3x
= 0
