[tex]\frac{y^5}{y^3}\times y^2[/tex]

when you divide terms with the same base you must subtract the exponents to simplify

then

[tex]\begin{gathered} (y^{5-3})\times y^2 \\ y^2\times y^2 \end{gathered}[/tex]

and when you multiply you add the exponents

[tex]\begin{gathered} y^{2+2} \\ =y^4 \end{gathered}[/tex]
