We shall apply the method of break apart and distribute to solve the question as follows;

Break apart 54 into multiples of 6;

Divide each part by 6

[tex]\begin{gathered} (\frac{12}{6})+(\frac{12}{6})+(\frac{12}{6})+(\frac{18}{6}) \\ =2+2+2+3 \\ =9 \end{gathered}[/tex]

Note that you may break apart the number 54 into bigger multiples of 6 (e.g, 30 and 24 OR, 36 and 18)
