Russia got involved in the First World War. Things did not go so well in the front but even if things got a bit better, the home front collapsed completely, forcing the Tsar to abdicate. Without Russia's involvement in the First world War, you have no communism taking over. Without communism taking over you have no countries being scared of the communists.
