In the triangle , hypotenuse = 2 and opposite side = 1  so adjacent side = sqrt 3 . You get this using the Pythagoras theorem. 
So cos x = adj/hyp = sqrt3 / 2 and tan x = opp/adg = 1 / sqrt3
