m = x + 3 tahts the answer to (a)
(b) x ( x + 3) = 340
x^2 + 3x - 340 = 0
To solve for x:-
(x - 17)(x + 20) = 0
so x = 17 or -20 ( age must be + so ignore the -20)
so Janes age is 17
M's age is 20
