first, we get rid of the fractions (to ease up calculations).we can do so by multiplying all terms by 4
(1/4)(4)+(1/2)(4)+(x)(4)=(-3/4)(4)
1 + 2 + 4x = -3
then, we will isolate the variables in one side of the equation and calculate its value:
4x = -3-2-1 = -6
x = -6/4 = -3/2
