[tex]d+ \frac{17}{2} =5 \frac{1}{3} [/tex]
Subtract [tex] \frac{17}{2} [/tex]
[tex]d=5 \frac{1}{3}- \frac{17}{2} [/tex]
Common denominator  is 6
[tex]d= \frac{5*3+1}{3} - \frac{17}{2} [/tex]

[tex]d= \frac{16}{3} - \frac{17}{2} [/tex]

[tex]d= \frac{2*16}{2*3} - \frac{3*17}{3*2} [/tex]

[tex]d= \frac{32}{6} - \frac{51}{6} [/tex]

[tex]d= \frac{32+51}{6} [/tex]

[tex]d= \frac{83}{6} [/tex]

[tex]d=13 \frac{5}{6} [/tex]
