The colony of New Jersey was formed. It was one of America's original 13 colonies. The colony of New Jersey was one of the Middle Colonies along with New York, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. It was founded by Sir George Carteret and Lord Berkeley and it was also originally named the Province of New Jersey.
